What We Do
The Liberian School for Needy Children is a U.S.-based charity that raises money to support Zoe Robinson Academy in Monrovia, Liberia. The focus is simple: ensuring the school can operate consistently, safely, and with dignity.
Funding is shared.
LSFNC is not the school’s only source of support. The school is operated and funded locally by Hilltop Schools, which plays a critical role in sustaining daily operations.
LSFNC’s role is to complement that local commitment by raising funds, applying for grants, and directing support toward essential needs that strengthen the school over time. Support takes many forms. It includes daily essentials like meals and basic infrastructure, as well as longer-term work such as facility improvements, and grant-funded initiatives.
Some needs are planned. Others arise unexpectedly. LSFNC exists to help meet both.
Daily Meals Program
Daily meals make it possible for students to attend school consistently. When students know they will eat at school, they arrive on time, stay through the day, and are better able to focus in class. Daily meals are a core part of keeping Zoe Robinson Academy functioning day to day.
The Liberian School for Needy Children is responsible for funding and supporting this Meals Program. It is one of LSFNC’s primary focus areas. Support covers the full cycle of the program, from providing funds, to enabling food to be purchased locally and prepared on site.
For many children, this Meals Program is a stabilizing part of their routine. It removes a basic barrier to learning and allows the school to operate more consistently, with students present, engaged, and able to participate.
The following video shows how the feeding program operates in practice, from receiving funds locally to purchasing, preparing, and serving meals at Zoe Robinson Academy.
Learning Environment and Infrastructure
A school can only function if the basics are in place. Beyond classrooms and teachers,
students need a physical environment that supports learning, safety, and daily routines.
What LSFNC supports
- Core infrastructure
- Access to a dependable water supply
- Tables and chairs for shared meals
- Safe food storage (food freezer and other kitchen equipment)
- Ongoing construction needs
- Expansion of learning space
- Improvements for meals and administration
- Building in phases, as needs arise
- Student experience
- Field trips to extend learning
- School-wide events, including the annual Christmas celebration

These are examples of the kinds of items LSFNC has paid for and will continue to pay for as the school’s needs change.
When Hilltop Schools assumed responsibility for Zoe Robinson Academy, the school required significant renovations to be safe and usable for students and staff.
Facilities & Renovations
The Liberian School for Needy Children helped fund that initial work, addressing core building needs so the school could function day to day. That early investment made it possible for students to return to a stable learning environment.
Since then, LSFNC has continued to support facility repairs and improvements as needs arise. This includes maintaining existing classrooms and funding construction projects that expand or adapt the space to support enrollment, meals, and daily operations.
This work is approached in phases, with priorities identified over time. The focus is steady progress: keeping the school usable today while strengthening it for the future.

Grant funding & long-term support
In addition to individual donations, the Liberian School for Needy Children actively seeks grant funding to support Zoe Robinson Academy’s long-term stability.
Grant support helps strengthen the school beyond immediate needs. It allows for more durable planning, supports larger initiatives that may not be possible through individual giving alone, and complements the funding provided locally by Hilltop Schools.
This combination of individual support, grant funding, and local investment helps ensure that progress at the school is sustainable over time.
